My first visit to Japan in 2001 was an eye-opening experience. I was instantly drawn to the culture—a fascinating blend of deep traditions and cutting-edge innovation. The attention to detail in everything, from Japanese craftsmanship to the warmth of omotenashi (hospitality), left a lasting impression on me.
As I spent more time in Japan and got involved in business, I came to appreciate the values that drive success here—trust, long-term relationships, and an unwavering commitment to quality. However, I also learned that starting a business in Japan is no easy task. The process is highly structured, with complex regulations, lengthy approvals, and strict bureaucracy. On top of that, Japan’s business culture prioritizes credibility and trust, making it challenging for new players to break in and attract top talent. Unlike in other markets where deals happen quickly, success in Japan takes time, patience, and a deep understanding of local customs.
With that said, once you find the right support to help you navigate these challenges and earn the trust of your partners, Japan offers incredible opportunities.
